The Art Ensemble Of Chicago - Go Home callen

March 23, 2021
There is also a bootleg version, likely from the 1980s, that is very difficult to differentiate from an original (thinner, white-stock gatefold jacket, paper inner).

Frank Foster And The Loud Minority - Bursting Out! callen

I used to have this and recall it being a 45 rpm 12" disc, so the timings are correct at a faster speed.

Red Onion Jazz Band*, Georgie Fame Quartet, Manfred Schoof Quintet - Jazz Jamboree 67 Vol. 2 callen

March 24, 2013
There is some question on the Schoof track. Mats Gustafsson has claimed it is Parker and Bennink. The usual tenor saxophonist for this group at the time was Gerd Dudek and to me it sounds more like Dudek (I have everything this band recorded). If it is Evan Parker, his playing is uncharacteristic for this vintage and sounds even cleaner and more confident than a year or two later with Broetzmann and Tony Oxley (cf. 1967 recs with John Stevens). Sven-Åke Johansson is clearly the drummer - that is unquestionably the case.

Various - Instant Composers Pool as reviewed by callen

March 18, 2013
Be aware: some of the LP and cassette transfers are absolutely horrible. Midwoud 77 is actually missing from all the sets and ICP 017/018 are actually duplicates. Really roughshod quality-control on otherwise indispensable music. It's a drag.
