A true New Wave classic – quintessential stuff! The original mix was released on initial Demon Records and RCA pressings of the single in 1980. However, when the song was reissued on Stiff Records in 1981, a remix was used (with a slightly punchier and crisper sound, otherwise no significant surprises). Tip: one easy way to tell the difference is at the 2:04 timemark where "Is Vic There" is sung during the telephone intermezzo. On the 1980 mix there's no echo, but on the '81 version there is.

Who is Vic?.. Michael Herbage- 'No one really, it's just made up. It's not Vic Goddard!! It's just a bloke who rang up the office and got the wrong number and they said 'Is Vic there?' and someone made some silly comment about him and in the end they wrote the song. It's no big thing.'
