Sounds great to me. Vinyl isn't dead quiet, no, but the surface noise is pretty minimal on my copy.

Man, these quality reviews are depressing. A real shame to read.

So I picked this up and it’s snap, crackle and pop. Give it a clean, play, clean, play (rinse repeat). Shame, the vinyl is stunning.

Has anyone heard this? Is it an improvement on the original pressing?

Can anyone comment on the quality of this pressing (as past pressings seem to have had issues?) Thank you!

re all the reviews below - this is available on CD - so, how about you buy one of the many for sale here (for around £2) and then you can listen to the CD while looking at your LP sleeves and badly pressed vinyl? I bought a copy today on CD for 33 pence. No surface noise at all. In fact, even though it doesn't look the best, it sounds just like the master tapes...

I got into Banhart right from his first album, and I thought he was a stunning and refreshing artist. This album is also great, it starts well and I was really enjoying it. When it came to the second half, I started to switch off, and that's because it all gets a bit familiar. Banhart has become even more hippy and experimental and it just doesn't work for me. It's not an album I will ignore, and I'm glad I have a copy, it's just not Banhart's best.

Just damn shame. I thought it was just me at first but after a spin on 3 other tables it became obvious that this was a complete piece of shit. I contacted XL - just like I did when my copy of RATATAT Classics was equally as poor - and never heard a word back. Absolutely heartbreaking and a total injustice considering how incredible this album is. I'm totally convinced that XL makes novelty pressings that they expect some teenagers to hang up on the wall and never play. Bottom line, it's somebody's fault and that somebody should be embarrassed. This is the only brand new record I've ever returned because it was unlistenable.

From a pressing quality perspective, this took a LOT of cleaning to get rid of the initial surface noise which I'll assume was due to the mold release compound used in the pressing process. First I cleaned it ultrasonically but still heard surface noise. Then I cleaned it by hand using an enzymatic cleaner and then put it through the ultrasonic machine again to rinse. NOW it is quiet enough to listen to given the soft music passages (that said there is STILL occasional light noise like on A4 but it's tolerable). Can't comment on dynamics of the recording as I haven't A/B compared this to any other source other than to say the overall volume level seems kinda quiet. My standard caveat: unfortunately I don't expect any new pressing to sound quiet without cleaning and many don't even clean up all that well so listening to a new pressing without cleaning at all is an unrealistic expectation.

Can anyone speak to the sound quality of this re-pressing? The OG press is said to be terrible.
