Carl Rittmann

Austrian opera singer (baritone) (born January 19, 1877 in Podgórze, Krakow, Galicia, then Austria-Hungary - died November 4, 1944 in London, UK)

After an initial engagement in Beuthen (Bytom) between 1902-1904 and two more years in which he continued his voice studies, Rittmann had engagements in Bern, Switzerland (1906-1908) and Bremen, Germany (1908-1910). Between 1910 and 1925, he was a member of the Vienna Court Opera (Wiener Hofoper), performing up and on as a guest until 1927, when he retired. After Nazi-Germany annexed Austria, Rittmann escaped to London.

Rittmann recorded with Beka, His Master's Voice, Odeon, Pathé, Zonophone, and many others.
