BBC Radiophonic Workshop

Profile:
Initiated in 1958 by Daphne Oram and Desmond Briscoe to create 'special sound' for BBC radio programmes and later famously supplied the "Doctor Who" TV series with its theme tune.
It was eventually closed in 1998, by which time many of the future pioneers of electronica, had either been employed at the workshop, or had been inspired by the work that was created there.

The BBC Radiophonic Workshop was a wonderful place where early electronic sounds was created. The music that we know today came from here and Music Concréte in France.. Tapes, transistors, modulators and recorders where their tools. Mathematical minds was needed to create and engineer sounds by cutting and looping tape-bits. The workshop spawned many talents that still fascinates today's musical pioneers, most notably the Doctor Who theme, which is to my ears a masterpiece done with multiple tape-loops played simultaneously.
I would advise you to look into the history of this era if you are serious about music, if you haven't, it might change your idea of where the beginning of electronic music started. It did so for me.. It is brilliant journey.
Start it by checking the tube for a documentary called Alchemysts Of Sound.
